Sometimes in life, we find that we can no longer manage our heartbreaks, our disappointments, or our pain.
Sometimes, it can feel like even God is not accessible in our moments of greatest need.
Sometimes, we can't necessarily name the problem specifically, but a restlessness, a subtle dissatisfaction, or the simple longing for more can be sensed; we just know something is missing.
Suffering & Loss
Suffering disorients. Suffering brings us to our knees. Suffering flays us wide open. Suffering goes hand in hand with death in all its forms. And there are many kinds of death in this broken world we inhabit. Sooner or later we all come face to face with one version or another. The death of a dream we held long. The death of a relationship we didn't believe would end. The death of our ability to trust. There is no comparison of suffering worth making except for the comparison to what our lives were intended to be in Eden. None of us have had anything close to that. All suffering matters. Your suffering matters deeply to God. He proved it by sending his son who suffered in all the ways that you have.
An Invitation to Hope
When the things we have always done to get through rough waters begin to fail us, it can be an invitation to something better and something deeper, even if we can't see it yet. The opening of our pain is the exact place that God wants to be invited into so that he can heal us. And only he can heal us. This is precisely the good news that we all need in the darkest of places…it is good to hope for what you have not yet experienced. This is where we all need a wise guide who can serve as an anchor and escort us on our journey toward more solid ground.
